From July 2024 to November 2024, I led a strategic user research project end-to-end on how and why outpatient physicians write clinical notes, culminating in a final presentation to key stakeholders. I also honed my user research expertise through a workshop series and 1:1 coaching.

Selina’s final Research UXD Presentation on outpatient notes was truly impressive in all aspects. She had direct, concise takeaways that were all backed by qualitative and quantitative data. The discussion was lively and it felt like folks in the room found her findings useful and wanted more, which is the best outcome to have.

💡 Insights

I uncovered three key insights about notes that helped us understand the motivations and needs behind current documentation practices.

(1) Notes are a unique, centralized, all-purpose review tool

(2) Note length varies based on specialty needs and priorities

(3) Systemic and psychological factors prevent behavior change
